Storm in Israel uncovers ancient statue

A huge storm that collapsed part of a cliff on Israel's central coast led to the discovery of a statue dating back to the Roman period, the Israel Antiquities Authority said Tuesday.
The white marble statue of a woman wearing a toga and sandals is estimated to be 2,000 years old. It stands 1.2 meters tall, weighs about 200 kilograms and was found with no head or arms, according to a news release by the authority.
A person walking on the shore of the southern city of Ashkelon made the discovery, the authority said.
"The statue fell into the sea when the ancient maritime cliff collapsed as a result of the storm," said Yigal Israel, the Ashkelon district archaeologist. "The collapse also ruined a bath house and mosaics that had been in the cliff for many hundreds of years."
The storm, one of the strongest Israel has experienced in recent years, brought winds of more than 100 kph that sent 10-meter waves crashing into Israel's coast.

Al Qaeda: We're sorry about Yemen hospital attack

It's something you don't often hear from the leaders of a terrorist group known for violence: We're sorry.
But that's just what the head of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula said in a video message Sunday, apologizing for a hospital attack in Sanaa earlier this month that left dozens of people dead.
The attackers were directed not to assault the hospital or mosque in an attack against a Yemeni Ministry of Defense compound on December 5, but one fighter made a mistake and attacked the hospital, leader Qassim Al-Raimi says in the video.
"We confess to this mistake and fault. We offer our apologies and condolences to the families of the victims," Raimi said in the video, which was published by al Qaeda media outlet Al-Malahim. "We did not want your lost ones; we did not target them on purpose. This is not of our religion or our morals."
Footage shows Yemen gunman open fire
It's unusual to see "such a direct, fast, public apology" from al Qaeda, CNN National Security Analyst Peter Bergen said.
"Al Qaeda leaders seem to be waking up to the fact that if they position themselves as the defenders of Muslims, their large-scale killing of Muslim civilians needs to stop," Bergen said.
The apology comes after Yemeni government officials released surveillance video showing the hospital under attack.
The surveillance footage showed patients nervously looking out of the hospital windows, then running after an explosion.
In another clip, patients and staff huddle in a hallway. They watch as an attacker walks calmly toward them, activates an explosive and lobs it in their direction.
"We saw what the Yemeni channel broadcast: a gunman entering a hospital . ... We did not order him to do so, and we are not pleased with what he did," Raimi said. "Moreover, it wronged us and pained us, because we do not fight in this manner."
The U.S. government has designated al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula as a foreign terrorist organization and says the group has orchestrated "numerous high-profile terrorist attacks."
Sunday's apology, though rare, isn't the first time al Qaeda or its affiliates have apologized.
In November, Syrian rebels with al Qaeda ties apologized for mistakenly beheading a wounded rebel fighter after assuming he supported Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
In 2009, an al Qaeda spokesman released a video message offering condolences to "unintended Muslim victims" killed in attacks.
And in 2007, Bergen said, former al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden said that Muslim victims killed by al Qaeda in Iraq "are not the intended targets."
Behind the scenes, Bergen said, leaders of the group have expressed concerns about the impact such attacks would have on the group's reputation.
"We know from the documents recovered at the bin Laden compound in Abbottabad by U.S. Navy SEALS in May 2011, al Qaeda's leaders were often writing to each other privately and also to groups they are associated with about the need to minimize civilian (Muslim) casualties and often wrote about the damage to the al Qaeda brand that killing civilians had achieved by al Qaeda operations in Iraq," Bergen said. "But the straightforward public apology ... is a new development."
In Sunday's message, Raimi said the group would financially compensate families of victims in the hospital attack.
But the militant leader also stressed that the group's fighters wouldn't shy away from going after targets that have ties to American drones. That's why they hit the Defense Ministry compound that day, he said.
Since the attack, Yemeni government officials have repeatedly stated there are no drone operations based at the compound.
Raimi said places that help American drones by spying, providing information or offering intelligence are legitimate targets.
"We have a long list of these places. In case they continue, we will continue. We will reach them, because we defend ourselves," he said. "We made a mistake. We accept responsibility and we are continuing with our Jihad."

Tens of thousands of anti-government protesters march in Bangkok

Tens of thousands of anti-government protesters took to the streets of Thailand's capital Sunday, some surrounding the home of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, whom they want to oust.
An estimated 90,000 protesters were marching in Bangkok, Lt. Gen. Paradon Patthanathabut, Thailand's national security chief, told CNN. He said that number rose to 150,000 at the peak of the rally in the late afternoon.
He earlier said 10,000 had surrounded the premier's home while she tours the northeast provinces. The demonstration there was later disbanded.
In a bid to cool tensions, Shinawatra dissolved the nation's parliament earlier this month and called for new elections, to be held on February 2.
But the move has done little to appease anti-government protesters, who remained on the streets by the thousands.
Thailand protesters want PM to quit
The main opposition party, the Democrat Party, has said it will boycott the polls.
Speaking on one of the main stages set up at the rally, protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban asked demonstrators to surround a sports complex where candidates seeking to put themselves forward for the election will have to register their names.
Candidates have from Monday to Friday to do so.
Security beefed up
Security at the complex was being stepped up ahead of the start of registration, Paradon said, but he could not give figures.
During the weeks of demonstrations, protesters have occupied various government offices. The rallies have been mostly peaceful, but there have also been deadly clashes between protesters and government supporters.
Protest leaders have said they want to rid Thailand of the influence of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, the older brother of Yingluck.
That's an ambitious goal in a country where every election since 2001 has been won by parties affiliated with Thaksin, who built his political success on populist policies that appealed to Thailand's rural heartland.
Thaksin Shinawatra was ousted in a military coup in 2006 and has spent most of the time since then in exile overseas. If he returns, he risks a two-year prison sentence on a corruption conviction, which he says was politically motivated.
The current protests in Bangkok were prompted by a botched attempt by Yingluck Shinawatra's government to pass an amnesty bill that would have opened the door for her brother's return.
That move added fuel for critics who accuse her of being nothing more than her brother's puppet, an allegation she has repeatedly denied.

PR exec Justine Sacco tweets racist joke on flight to Africa; outrage sparks website, Twitter hashtag

Justine Sacco, director of corporate communications for IAC, tweeted out Friday: 'Going to Africa. Hope I don't get AIDS. Just kidding. I'm white!' The outrage piled up on social media, with someone creating the website justinesacco.com and pointing it toward links to charities that benefit sub-Saharan Africa.

It's sounding more like OK Stupid.
The communications director for media conglomerate IAC, which represents brands like OKCupid, is in trouble after publicly tweeting a racist “joke” that’s getting few — if any — laughs.
“Going to Africa. Hope I don’t get AIDS. Just kidding. I’m white!” Justine Sacco tweeted Friday, apparently from London shortly before departing on a trip.
Sacco, whose represented brands also include Vimeo and CollegeHumor, was not immediately available for comment.
But the offending tweet disappeared late Friday night — which would be early Saturday morning in Africa. Just after midnight in New York, in fact, Sacco’s entire account vanished.

Sacco tweeted: 'Going to Africa. Hope I don't get AIDS. Just kidding. I'm white!'

Sacco tweeted: 'Going to Africa. Hope I don't get AIDS. Just kidding. I'm white!'

But it might be too little, too late, judging by a statement IAC sent earlier to the Daily News.
“This is an outrageous, offensive comment that does not reflect the views and values of IAC,” said the company, which is operated by billionaire media executive Barry Diller. Noting it had been unable to reach the in-flight “employee in question,” the statement continued, “This is a very serious matter and we are taking appropriate action.”
Meanwhile, outrage over what many dubbed “worst tweet of the year” piled up, with one vengeful Twitter user publishing Sacco’s cell phone number online.
“She gon get that message I left,” Twitter user illmami wrote.

After Sacco's tweet, someone created a website justinesacco.com, linking a coalition of charities that benefit sub-Saharan Africa.

Another wrote, “Listen, homegirl is about to be FIRED.”
Sacco's tweet also inspired the Twitter hashtag #HasJustineLandedYet, with users mocking her controversial tweet and speculating what would happen when her flight landed.
"Sometimes you land with more baggage than you took off with," user LAmaleCA tweeted.
Someone even created a website — justinesacco.com — that links to a coalition of charities that benefit sub-Saharan Africa.

IAC, operated by media billionaire Barry Diller, reacted by calling her tweet 'outrageous' and 'offensive.'

Though it’s possible Sacco was the victim of malicious hackers, her past tweets make that scenario seem less likely.
“I like animals, but when it’s this cold out I’ll skin one myself for the fur,” she once tweeted to the animal rights group PETA.

Spacewatch: ISS in the December sky

Satellite predictions
Astronauts aboard the ISS (International Space Station) have been assigned emergency spacewalks to replace one of two fridge-sized coolant modules on the outside of the station. Without the fix, a failure of the second module might force the ISS to be abandoned. The first spacewalk is to begin at 12:10 on Saturday, 21 December, with further ones on Monday and, if necessary, on Christmas Day.
The ISS, with its six all-male crew at present, is now conspicuous as it crosses eastwards in Britain's evening sky. The tables show predictions of its path as seen from London and Manchester, with asterisks marking the directions in which it disappears into eclipse in the Earth's shadow.

Defying White House, 26 senators prep Iran sanctions bill

A bipartisan group of 26 senators is planning to introduce a bill to impose new sanctions on Iran if the regime violates its interim nuclear deal or if a final agreement falls through.
The effort, led by U.S. Sens. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., and Mark Kirk, R-Ill., would increase pressure on Iran if it fails to meet the obligations it agreed to in last month’s historic deal to freeze parts of its nuclear program.  That promise to halt the nation’s advances towards a nuclear weapon came in exchange for the temporary relief of some economic sanctions.
The White House said Thursday that any sanctions legislation at this time would hurt ongoing diplomatic negotiations with Iran and that the president would veto the Senate proposal if passed.
“Now is not the time to pass new legislation in Congress," White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters Thursday. "If Iran does not comply with the interim agreement or agree to a more comprehensive agreement in six months, we are confident we can come back to Congress and pass additional sanctions at that time."
But the legislation’s backers say that Iranian leaders can’t be trusted to hew to the deal’s principles without the threat of sanctions.
"The American people rightfully distrust Iran's true intentions and they deserve an insurance policy to defend against Iranian deception during negotiations," Kirk said in a statement.  "This is a responsible, bipartisan bill to protect the American people from Iranian deception and I urge the Majority Leader to give the American people an up or down vote."
“Current sanctions brought Iran to the negotiating table and a credible threat of future sanctions will require Iran to cooperate and act in good faith at the negotiating table," said Menendez, who heads the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. "The Iranians last week blamed the Administration for enforcing sanctions; now, they criticize Congress. The burden rests with Iran to negotiate in good faith and verifiably terminate its nuclear weapons program. Prospective sanctions will influence Iran's calculus and accelerate that process toward achieving a meaningful diplomatic resolution."

Commercial Bus and Conductors to wear Uniform next year

The Lagos state Commissioner for Transportation, Comrade Kayode Opeifa while speaking at a stakeholders meeting in Lagos yesterday revealed that come 2014 the Lagos state government would be introducing the use of uniforms and badges for commercial bus drivers and conductors. He said the move is geared towards proper identification & effective management of the public transportation sector.

Obama Commutes Sentences for 8 in Crack Cocaine Cases

WASHINGTON — President Obama, expanding his push to curtail severe penalties for drug offenses, on Thursday commuted the sentences of eight federal inmates who were convicted of crack cocaine offenses. Each inmate has been imprisoned for at least 15 years, and six were sentenced to life in prison.
It was the first time retroactive relief was provided to a group of inmates who most likely would have received significantly shorter terms if they had been sentenced under current drug laws, sentencing rules and charging policies.
Most of the eight will be released in 120 days.
In a statement, Mr. Obama said that each of the eight men and women had been sentenced under what is now recognized as an “unfair system,” including under a 100-to-1 sentencing disparity between crack and powder cocaine offenses that was significantly reduced by the Fair Sentencing Act of 2011.
“If they had been sentenced under the current law, many of them would have already served their time and paid their debt to society,” Mr. Obama said. “Instead, because of a disparity in the law that is now recognized as unjust, they remain in prison, separated from their families and their communities, at a cost of millions of taxpayer dollars each year.”
The recipients include several high-profile inmates who have received news media attention as examples of the effects of earlier tough-on-crime drug sentencing policies, in which the quantities of crack involved sometimes resulted in severe punishments. Many of them were young at the time of their offense and were not accused of violence.
Clarence Aaron of Mobile, Ala., for example, was sentenced to three life terms in prison for his role in a 1993 drug deal, when he was 22. Mr. Aaron’s case has been taken up by congressional critics of draconian sentencing and by civil rights groups, and has received significant media attention. Last year, the Justice Department’s inspector general issued a report criticizing the department’s pardon office for mishandling his clemency petition.
Margaret Love, a former Justice Department pardon lawyer who represents Mr. Aaron, said she received a call informing her of the decision on Thursday morning and called her client, who along with his family was “very grateful.”
“He was absolutely overcome,” she said. “Actually, I was, too. He was in tears. This has been a long haul for him, 20 years. He just was speechless, and it’s very exciting.”
Mr. Obama, who has made relatively little use of his constitutional clemency powers to forgive offenses or reduce sentences, is also expected to pardon 13 people who completed their sentences long ago. Those cases involved mostly minor offenses that resulted in little or no prison time, in line with previous pardons he has issued.
But the eight commutations opened a major new front in the administration’s criminal justice policy intended to curb soaring taxpayer spending on prisons and to help correct what the administration has portrayed as unfairness in the justice system.
Recipients also include Reynolds Wintersmith, of Rockford, Ill., who was sentenced in 1994 to life in prison for dealing crack when he was 17, and Stephanie George of Pensacola, Fla., who received a life sentence in 1997, when she was 27, for hiding a boyfriend’s stash of crack in a box in her house. In both cases, the sentencing judges criticized the mandatory sentences they were required to impose by federal law at the time, calling them unjust.
In December 2012, The New York Times published an article about Ms. George’s case and the larger rethinking of the social and economic costs of long prison terms for nonviolent offenders. Mr. Obama mentioned the article in an interview with Time magazine later that day and said he was considering asking officials about ways to do things “smarter.”
Around that time, a senior White House official said, Mr. Obama directed Kathryn Ruemmler, his White House counsel, to ask the Justice Department to examine pending clemency petitions to assess whether there were any in which current inmates serving long sentences would have benefited from subsequent changes to sentencing laws and policy.
The deputy attorney general, James M. Cole, returned the eight cases with positive recommendations from the department about six weeks ago, the official said.
The possibility of retroactively reducing sentences for nonviolent offenders who were sentenced under the old system comes against the backdrop of a growing pendulum swing against draconian mandatory minimum sentences that led to an 800 percent increase in the number of prisoners in the United States. With 5 percent of the world’s population, the United States has about 25 percent of its inmates.
Amid crime rates that have plunged to the lowest levels in four decades and soaring costs to taxpayers to incarcerate large numbers of nonviolent offenders, a sentencing reform movement — led by states including the conservative-leaning Texas and South Carolina — has gained momentum and is now reaching the federal level. In the federal system, the need to house the swelling ranks of prisoners — at a cost of about $26,000 each a year, according to government figures — is consuming an ever-larger amount of the Justice Department’s budget. In 2000, taxpayers spent $4.2 billion on federal prisons, or 27 percent of the department’s budget. This year, that has swollen to $7.9 billion. By 2020, a recent analysis showed, it is projected to be $10.1 billion and 40 percent of the budget.
In addition to the reduction in mandatory minimum sentences for crack offenses established by the Fair Sentencing Act, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. in August instructed prosecutors to omit listing quantities of illicit substances in indictments for low-level drug offenses in order to avoid setting off strict mandatory minimum sentences. He also ordered prosecutors to recharge pending cases to bring them in line with that policy.
But the moves left unanswered what, if anything, to do about federal inmates whose cases were already completed and who are serving long sentences under the older system of mandatory minimum sentences. The harsh sentencing laws were imposed amid a wave of crack-related violence and fear of crime a generation ago.
Legislation pending in Congress, including a bill co-sponsored by Senators Richard J. Durbin, Democrat of Illinois, and Mike Lee, Republican of Utah, would make the Fair Sentencing Act retroactive for some offenders, and it would build into the system a process for inmates to apply to a judge for case-by-case review of whether a reduced sentence would be appropriate.
The Obama administration supports that bill, the White House said, as a more orderly and regular way to ensure individualized analysis in addressing the broader inmate population.
According to the group Families Against Mandatory Minimums, about 8,800 federal inmates sentenced for crack offenses before the Fair Sentencing Act would be eligible to apply for a reduced sentence were the bill to become law.
“Commuting the sentences of these eight Americans is an important step toward restoring fundamental ideals of justice and fairness,” Mr. Obama said. “But it must not be the last. In the new year, lawmakers should act on the kinds of bipartisan sentencing reform measures already working their way through Congress. Together, we must ensure that our taxpayer dollars are spent wisely, and that our justice system keeps its basic promise of equal treatment for all.”
The other recipients of commutations were Ezell Gilbert of Tampa, Fla., who was sentenced to more than 24 years in 1997; Helen Alexander Gray of Ty Ty, Ga., sentenced to 20 years in 1996; Jason Hernandez of McKinney, Tex., who was sentenced to life in 1998; Ricky Eugene Patterson of Fort Pierce, Fla., who was sentenced to life in 1995; and Billy Ray Wheelock of Belton, Tex., who was sentenced to life in 1993.
Most will be released in 120 days to give the Bureau of Prisons and the inmate time to plan for the release. Mr. Gilbert will be released immediately because he was recently out of prison for a time, without problems, during an appeal. Mr. Hernandez’s sentence was reduced to 20 years, so he will be released in 2018.

Police arrest man, 26, for defiling 2-yr-old girl

The Ogun State Police Command  said it has arrested one Kehinde Adejuwon, 26, for allegedly  having carnal knowledge of a two-year-old girl at Oja Odan  in  Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun  State.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi stated this  in a  statement in Abeokuta.

According to Adejobi, “the suspect was arrested by a team of detectives attached to Ayetoro Division of the command, led by the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ayetoro, Superintendent of Police Gbola Adigun, when the father of the victim alerted the police

“The suspect, who confessed to the crime, regretted his actions but he will be made to face the wrath of the law as the offence he committed is condemned by the law of our land and Nigerian culture and tradition.

“The Commissioner of Police Ogun State, CP Ikemefuna Okoye, has ordered that the case be transferred to the Anti Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State CID, Eleweran, Abeokuta for necessary action.”

“The command will always wage war against such terrible individuals who are fond of engaging themselves in ungodly acts.

“We will always work hand in hand with relevant agencies to put and end to this menace.  Enough is enough”, he said.

The 10 Most Hated Companies in America

1. J.C. Penney
J.C. Penney went from being a mediocre national retailer with modest challenges to one of the great public company management disasters of the last few years. Former Apple retail chief Ron Johnson joined as CEO in November 2011, and promptly decided to radically change the chain’s pricing policy. The negative reaction was immediate. Sales fell 20% in the first full quarter after Johnson began to implement his plans, and the company continued to lose sales at a rapid rate. Customers defected in droves as a sign of their dissatisfaction with the new retail model laid out by Johnson. And with its stock falling more than 40% since Johnson joined, shareholder are also livid with the company, which has also completely eliminated its dividend. Durban Capital’s retail analyst Steve Kernkraut recently said, “It’s been a disaster, and it probably will continue to be a disaster. They’ve made every misstep you could imagine.”
2. Dish Network Corp. (NASDAQ: DISH)
Dish’s remarkably poor customer service ratings show up in more than one survey. Customers knock its record in both the ACSI and in the MSN Money/Zogby poll. In the latter, it makes the “hall of shame” as one of the 10 worst-rated companies. Dish further alienated itself from its customers last May when it dropped several channels, including AMC. Among the shows that went off the satellite service were the highly popular “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad.” Employee ratings of their experiences at the company are as terrible of those of its customers. In a recent BusinessWeek story titled “The Meanest Company in America,” former and current employees called the environment created by the company’s founder as a “culture of condescension and distrust.” Glassdoor’s employee rating for Dish is among the worst in its entire survey that covers thousands of companies. Dish recently made an offer to buy broadband provider Clearwire, which would expand the satellite TV company’s broadband presence.
3. T-Mobile USA
Last year, plans were in the works for AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) to buy the U.S. branch of this struggling wireless carrier from its parent company, Deutsche Telekom. In December, AT&T cancelled those plans after the Justice Department sued to block the acquisition, saying the deal would “substantially lessen competition” in the industry. It appears that Deutsche Telekom is is now stuck with what is increasingly becoming the black sheep of the big four U.S. carriers. T-Mobile’s 4G network in the U.S. lags the other three carriers, and customer satisfaction is tied with AT&T mobility as the worst among wireless carriers, according to the ACSI. T-Mobile also rated as one of the worst in customer service according to MSN/Zogby’s annual poll. T-Mobile plans to improve its position through a marriage with smaller wireless company MetroPCS. It also plans to finally offer its customers the iconic iPhone. The fact of the matter is that these changes may be too little, too late. The company had an extraordinary net loss of 1,558,000 subscribers in the first three quarters of last year, out of the roughly 33 million it had at the end of 2011. During the same time, AT&T and Verizon Wireless continued to gain customers.

4. Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ: FB)
Facebook alienated its investors in a particularly public fashion, which was played out for days in many major media outlets in the U.S. and abroad. Its IPO was one of the most widely anticipated since the dot-com public offering bubble years of 1999 and 2000, which was immediately followed by a collapse in the value of many of those offerings. From its IPO price of $35, the stock fell to below $20 in less than three months. Facebook has had customer satisfaction issues for some time, but recently did a particularly good job of alienating a portion of its nearly one billion members. According to the ACSI, Facebook is one of the most strongly disliked American companies, beaten out only by three public utilities companies. This comes in part from the company’s continuing user privacy concerns. Mark Zuckerberg’s company did not help itself in this regard in 2012, after it announced that it had the right to republish any and all photos in the accounts of its Instagram users.
5. Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C)
Citigroup sacked CEO Vikram Pandit late last year, after he had shepherded the bank through the financial crisis and then fired thousands of workers as well. That, on its own, would be enough to destroy employee morale, but the bloodletting was not over. Pandit’s successor, Michael Corbat, said he would fire 11,000 more. The bank’s board may have been frustrated with the pace of cost reductions under Pandit, but that was not the only issue that the board apparently believed had hurt long-term shareholder value. Pandit’s mishandling of the sale of its Smith Barney unit caused Citi to write down $2.9 billion, and the action triggered a cut in its credit ratings by Moody’s. Such actions did not endear Citi to investors. The recovery of Citi’s shares since the global financial meltdown has been far worse than its major competitors. Citi’s relationship with its customers has also been awful. It took a place on the MSN Hall of Shame of the 10 worst companies in America based on customer service. Its ACSI ratings, already low, further plunged in 2012. According to Interbrand, Citi’s brand value dipped 12% last year, and is now only two-thirds that of rival J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM).
6. Research In Motion Ltd
The RIM BlackBerry was once the preeminent smartphone in America and around most of the world. According to recently released data from Comscore, its share of the market has dropped to 7.3% in the U.S. and is falling rapidly still. After the launch of the BlackBerry Storm, which was roundly criticized by consumers, RIM was unable to release a consumer product that attracted any meaningful sales. Several service outages further harmed its reputation and angered customers. In 2011, RIM launched a tablet PC — the PlayBook — in an attempt to move into that market. RIM took a $485 million writedown on unsold units. The company’s latest smartphone, the Blackberry 10, has been delayed for months. RIM’s customers have been the lucky ones, actually. The company has fired thousands of employees in an attempt to restore profits. Shareholders have fared very badly as well. RIM’s share price is off by over 20% in the last year, and 80% in the last two years. To top off these troubles, Interbrand reports the BlackBerry lost 39% of its brand value last year.

7. American Airlines
AMR, parent of American Airlines, has, in a remarkably short period of time, ruined its relationships with shareholders, bondholders, pilots, customers, suppliers, and most of its other employees. The November 2011 Chapter 11 filings of AMR virtually wiped out shareholders. Recently, American was also able to cut financial obligations to airplane manufacturers and holders of the corporation’s debt, harming the financial status of these. The company has been bickering with its pilots for months over compensation. The mass layoffs that often accompany bankruptcy proceedings began long ago. American’s image with passengers has also taken a beating. It was recently named the U.S. carrier with the rudest employees. It was also ranked the worst carrier in America based on customer service, according to the ACSI.
8. Nokia
Nokia recently lost its long-held position as the largest handset company in the world, giving up the spot to Samsung. A greater failure for the company has been its tremendous disaster in the smartphone market, where its brand and distribution muscle should have given it some advantages. But over the last five years, starting with the year the iPhone was released, Nokia has squandered any leverage it might have had and has permanently lost a position in the rapidly growing smartphone sector — mostly to Apple and Samsung. Nokia grabbed at what was probably its only chance to become relevant in smartphones again. It formed an alliance with Microsoft to use the Windows mobile OS in its new line of products. The launch of the resulting Lumia product line was botched. Newer versions of the Lumia line have not caught on. The prices of the most recently released models have already been cut, presumably to help boost flagging demand. As Nokia has fallen behind in the smartphone race, its shareholders have had to contend with a sickening drop in the value of its shares. The stock is down 20% in the last year, and 60% in the last two years. All of these factors have contributed to a loss in one of Nokia’s most important assets — its brand value. In its 2012 report, Interbrand has the company losing 16% of its value.
9. Sears Holding Corp. (NASDAQ: SHLD)
Earlier this month, Sears CEO Lou D’Ambrosio stepped down due to “family health matters.” His legacy is one of unsuccessfully attempting to give two iconic American brands — Sears and Kmart — some stability. He leaves the company with chairman and founder Eddie Lampert, who will become the fifth CEO in seven years for the faltering retail giant. Over the past five years, Sears shares have dropped by roughly 60%. In the most recent reported quarter, the company lost nearly $500 million in the most recent quarter, and more than more than $2.8 billion in the most recent reported 12 months. Meanwhile, main competitors Target Corp. (NYSE: TGT) and Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) have both handily outperformed the S&P 500. According to the ACSI, the company has the second worst score of any large discount retailer, better only than Walmart. Employees of both Sears and Kmart stores also rate their experience at the company as poor.

10. Hewlett-Packard
The case against Hewlett-Packard is devastating. According to the ACSI, HP was the second worst-ranked personal computer brand in 2012. HP may also be the most mismanaged major company in the U.S., which gives shareholders a reason to turn on it as well. Five years ago, the company had annual net income of more than $8 billion. In the 12 months ending in October, HP lost $12.6 billion. The company shares are down more than 40% in the past year. Further complicating matter is HP’s acquisition in October 2011 of British data company Autonomy, which is now under investigation for fraud for misrepresenting its value. HP may have lost billions in the deal. Last year, in an attempt to restructure and stop the bleeding, the company laid off 27,000 employees, more than double any other company in 2012. Employee research firm Glassdoor reports HP is also disliked by its employees.

GROUPIE TALES!!! Groupie Tells About Her STEAMY NIGHT With Rapper Drake . . . And She Says That Drake Is PACKIN!!! (Warning - Contains GRAPHIC Language And Descriptions)

I met Drake after he did a show on the Lil’ Wayne tour in Memphis, TN.

They were staying downtown at a mediocre hotel and me and a group of my girls just so happened to have a friend working the front desk so we knew where they were at.

We were at the bar having drinks figuring they would be in after the concert around 11:30. Sure enough Drake walks in with some girls (who I believe where the dancers) and the some other short dude whom I assumed was Jas prince son of rap-a-lot owner. So we kind of flirted and got his attention and they came over to the bar and was like what’s up with ya’ll, ya’ll from around here. We said no we just go to school at Langston but were from Vegas. They were like well you want to come up, we can chill and drink up there. So we were like okay.

We get up to the room and everyone is talking and having fun and all of a sudden Jas grabs my girl and was like yo we’ll be back. So I’m sitting there with Drake and he was like come closer come up on the bed. I’m like wow can I get comfortable first I barely know you. . .

So we kissed for a bit and then he was like you know what would really turn me on..I’m like what’s up talk to me..he was like some head..I’m like well that’s not really my thing and I thought to myself this might can be continuous thing so fuck . Then I thought I can’t break up a happy home, and I asked him isn’t your girlfriend Bria Myles, he’s says no that was a Lil fling but its way over now . So I say ok, let’s get it. Girl let , me tell you when he pulled it out. GOD DAMN.

Who said light skinned dudes weren’t in. I was locked in, as Diddy would say, on him. I figured he’s like 6’2 I so he has to be holding something and lord he was. It was like some porno shit I swear, they could mold that thing and sell it in stores. So I break him off for like 5 mins and then that was it. I guess he’s one of those dudes who enjoys head more than sex I was like wow I wanted to do more but it was okay cause the look on his face was priceless. He was really sweet though and was like maybe we’ll see each other again. If you ever in Toronto hit me up. We exchanged numbers, I called my girl and we left.

Overall 9 out of 10 even though we didn’t go all the way, but his personality and passion was out of this world. I pray he’s stays single for a while cause any girlfriend he has is definitely going to catch hell.

A president, former president and possible future president on Air Force One

A president, former president and possible future president on Air Force OneAs Air Force One made its way from Washington to Johannesburg Monday, a president, a former president and a possible future president were all travelling aboard.
The high-powered travelling partners came together for a transcontinental trip to South Africa for a memorial service Tuesday honouring Nelson Mandela, the former South African leader who died last week at the age of 95. The unusual manifest required some creative seating arrangements on the presidential plane.
Obama and Michelle Obama occupied the president's stateroom at the front of the plane. Former President George W. Bush and wife Laura were settled nearby in the plane's medical suite, which can function as an operating room. And former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton — the ex-first lady who is a potential candidate for president in 2016 — was given a spot in a cabin normally occupied by senior staff.
The plane's spacious conference room served as a gathering spot for the former president and three first ladies, with the current commander-in-chief popping in between in-flight meetings and calls. And there was no shortage of time for catching up. The flight from Washington to Johannesburg was scheduled to span about 16 hours, including a one-hour refuelling stop in Dakar, Senegal.
"It's a very, I think, enjoyable experience certainly for the president and first lady," said White House spokesman Jay Carney. "And they're both grateful to be able to have former president and first lady, former secretary of state on board."
For Bush, the flight marked the first time he had stepped foot on Air Force One since leaving the presidency nearly five years ago. He and the former first lady were already on board the plane in Washington when Obama arrived, skipping an on-camera greeting with the current president and first lady.
Bush has purposely tried to stay out of the public eye since leaving office. But he wandered back to the plane's press cabin for two lengthy off-the-record conversations with reporters, returning the second time with Laura Bush in tow.
Clinton is no stranger to the presidential plane, having travelled aboard Air Force One frequently as both first lady and secretary of state. And many Democrats have visions of her making many more trips aboard the plane, though they hope she'll be the one occupying the front cabin.
The White House invited all of the living American presidents to travel to South Africa on Air Force One. Former Presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter were instead travelling on their own, while 89-year-old George H.W. Bush was unable to attend the memorial because he can no longer travel far distances.

Obama to South Africa: 'The world thanks you for sharing Nelson Mandela'

SOWETO, South Africa – President Barack Obama lauded Nelson Mandela as a "giant of history" as tens of thousands cheered and almost 100 world leaders paid tribute to the anti-apartheid icon at a memorial service Tuesday.
“To the people of South Africa  -- people of every race and walk of life -- the world thanks you for sharing Nelson Mandela with us,” Obama said during the service for the freedom fighter, prisoner, president and Nobel laureate who led his nation out of apartheid.

“His struggle was your struggle. His triumph was your triumph. Your dignity and hope found expression in his life, and your freedom, your democracy is his cherished legacy,” he added, calling Mandela "a giant of history, who moved a nation toward justice, and in the process moved billions around the world."
Despite the driving rain, crowds sang and cheered before and during the service. A roar erupted when Obama and his wife Michelle arrived.
U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called Mandela, who died last week aged 95, “one of the greatest leaders of our time.”
“Nelson Mandela showed us the way with a heart larger than this stadium,” he added.

Leading an interfaith prayer service, South Africa's Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein recalled Mandela's "mighty power of forgiveness" and his ability to "to forgive and embrace his brothers and sisters who inflicted so much pain on him and millions of others."
The memorial will also feature eulogies from Brazil’s Dilma Rousseff, Cuba’s Raul Castro and China’s vice president Li Yuanchao. Leaders spanning the globe, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, will also be in attendance, as will former U.S. Presidents George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter.
Obama shook hands with Castro a short time before addressing the stadium.
Politician, businessman and fellow activist Cyril Ramaphosa praised Mandela as "the man who built our nation."

"His long walk is over, he can finally rest, he can now enjoy our beautiful country," Ramaphosa said, referencing the the title of Mandela's autobiography "Long Walk to Freedom." "His long walk is finally over, but ours is just beginning."
Celebrities such as U2 frontman Bono, actress Charlize Theron and model Naomi Campbell were among the mourners.
Mandela's extended family were also in attendance, and his grandchildren spoke. His second wife Winnie Mandela, who stood by him during his 27 years in prison, greeted his third wife Graca Machel with a hug and a kiss.

Most dignitaries sat in a covered area and behind bulletproof glass.
The atmosphere inside Africa's largest stadium was celebratory, with people dancing, blowing "vuvuzela" plastic horns and singing songs from the anti-apartheid struggle as they honored the man who steered their country from white-minority rule to multi-racial democracy.
"It is a moment of sadness celebrated by song and dance, which is what we South Africans do," Xolisa Madywabe, CEO of a South African investment firm, told The Associated Press.
"I was here in 1990 when Mandela was freed and I am here again to say goodbye," said Beauty Pule, 51. "I am sure Mandela was proud of the South Africa he helped create. It's not perfect but no-one is perfect, and we have made great strides."Soweto, where the stadium which hosted the 2010 soccer World Cup final is located, is a township that became a symbol of the anti-apartheid struggle that Mandela embodied during his decades in prison. A huge security operation was in force around the stadium, with private cars banned from the area around the facility.
"I would not have the life I have today if it was not for him," Matlhogonolo Mothoagae, a postgraduate marketing student who arrived hours before the stadium gates opened, told the AP. "He was jailed so we could have our freedom."

Tuesday is also the 20th anniversary of the day when Mandela and South Africa's last apartheid-era president, F.W. de Klerk, received the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to bring peace to their country.
The government has warned that police would turn away people from the memorial when the stadium fills up, and advised South Africans who don't live in Gauteng province to honor Mandela closer to home. Some 90 big screens were being set up throughout the country.

Brazil 2014: FIFA World Cup Finals Draw

The 2014 FIFA World Cup draw took place in Brazil today and Nigeria will play against Argentina, Iran and Bosnia-something...lol. Nigeria's opening game will be against Iran and even though Bosnia looks like it will be an easy game for us, the country is ranked higher than Nigeria in the world. They are ranked 21st, while Nigeria is ranked 36th, but I'm sure we'll qualify alongside Messi's Argentina.
