Teacher Under Fire After Telling Parents Their Kids Smell

BZnEz2OCUAA87oK
A number of parents at a Buffalo, N.Y., school are upset after a pre-kindergarten teacher sent home a note regarding “unclean and unkept” students.
Earlier this month, pre-K teacher Sharon D. Perry Dunnigan accused several children of coming to school with “soiled, stained, or dirty clothes,” according to Buffalo News. The educator said it makes it “difficult for me to be close to them or even want to touch them.” The note, which BUILD Academy parents were asked to sign and return, called the issue a “health and safety concern.”
A number of parents and school board members have publicly complained about the letter. Now, the veteran teacher is being barred from sending letters to parents without the principal’s approval. Parents are also pressuring the school to take further disciplinary action against Dunnigan, according to the outlet.
“That’s not right, that’s not what we’re in school for,” parent Kimberly Wells told local outlet KTNV-TV. “She could have called a parent on the phone, she could have had a meeting at the school face-to-face.”
However, not everyone agrees that Dunnigan was in the wrong. A number of bloggers have come to the teacher’s defense.
“You know what? I can’t say that I blame her. Kids should be clean when they go to school. Period,” The Stir’s Jeanne Sager wrote.
“If some parents don’t have the good sense to take better care of their kids, then all the other parents should know about it because the health of their kids is at risk too by other dirty smelly kids. Who knows what diseases they could spread in those conditions?” wrote conservative blogger Samuel Gonzalez.
The school did not immediately return The Post’s request for comment.

Rebel governors leave Nigerian ruling party for opposition

Rebel governors who defected from Nigeria's ruling party merged their splinter group with the main opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, denting President Goodluck Jonathan's powerbase for possible re-election.
Governors are some of the most powerful figures in Africa's biggest oil exporter, some controlling budgets bigger than many African countries, and their influence carries a great deal of weight in selecting presidential candidates.
The seven governors and a former presidential candidate formed the splinter group opposed to Jonathan in August. All were present for the meeting at which the decision to merge was made, said Lai Mohammed, spokesman for the APC.
"After exhaustive deliberations, the two parties agreed to merge in order to rescue our fledgling democracy and the nation," said a joint statement, read out by Kawu Baraje, chairman of the splinter group, who is not himself a governor.
The defection of seven from his own party was seen as the most explicit internal threat to Jonathan's assumed plan to run in elections in early 2015 - although analysts questioned the influence of the governors, given some were due to leave office or represented states that Jonathan was unlikely to win anyhow.
The People's Democratic Party has been in power since shortly after the end of military rule in 1998, but it has increasingly been driven by internal squabbles.
Many northerners say Jonathan running again would violate an unwritten PDP rule that power should rotate between the largely Muslim north and mostly Christian south each two terms.
The president has also made powerful enemies elsewhere, including the governor of Rivers state Rotimi Amaechi, who is from Jonathan's own oil producing Niger Delta region but defected nonetheless.
"They have come to join the APC. The governors have all agreed. We believe they are all on board," Mohammed said.
But official sources close to one state governor said that it was not yet a done deal, which leaves open the possibility that one or two of the governors may go back to the PDP.
Amaechi told Reuters by SMS text message that the splinter group had joined the APC and Baba Dantye, a spokesman for Kano state governor Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso, also confirmed the move.
"It is a blow to the PDP in terms of prestige, but most of the departing governors were from states where the president polled badly in 2011 and would not have been expected to win," said Antony Goldman, head of Africa-focused PM Consulting.
With most of the defecting governors due to leave office in 2015 it is unclear how much they can benefit the APC, Goldman said.
The more hotly contested the race, the more likely it is to turn violent, as it has in the past, analysts say.
It is also likely to hurt state coffers, as the demands of patronage needed to fight the poll grow.

7 shot near Oakland park

Police say two shootings near a park in Oakland have left seven people wounded.
Oakland police spokeswoman Johnna Watson says officers responded to a report of a shooting about a block away from the Verdese Carter Park and community garden at about 6:08 p.m. When they arrived, they learned of a second shooting scene nearby.
The Oakland Tribune reports that the victims were all men between the ages of 23 and 31. Two were said to be in critical condition while the other five received minor injuries.
There were no immediate reports of any suspects or arrests.
Councilman Larry Reid, who represents the neighborhood, says the number of shootings has risen over the last six months in the area.

Kylie Jenner Says She Doesn't Remember Not Being Famous, "Grateful For Everything"

Kylie Jenner at the grand opening of Sugar Factory Hollywood on Nov 13
Must be nice! Kylie Jenner has been in the spotlight with her famous family for most of her life, so it's no surprise that the reality star knows nothing else but the glitz and glam. While attending the grand opening of Sugar Factory in Hollywood, Calif. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, the youngest Jenner admitted to Us Weekly that being famous isn't something she needs to get used to necessarily.
"I don't remember how it was before [I was famous] because I was nine when this all started," the 16-year-old told Us. "So it's kind of like I grew up into it. It's kind of like I don't know any different."

Indeed, Jenner has been filming the smash E! reality series Keeping Up With the Kardashians with her family since 2007. Since then, Kris and Bruce Jenner's daughter has used that famous name to branch out in a variety of job ventures with her sister Kendall Jenner, 18.
"We're still working on our Pac Sun line. We have a jewelry line at Nordstrom and we're coming out with a book that we're really excited about," Kylie told Us. "I would love to in the future maybe create my own line and branch away from Kendall and continue Pac Sun."
She added: "[Maybe] try acting or something. I have no clue."
Though fame has brought her luxury and opportunity, Jenner doesn't take it for granted. "Its brought me such great things," she said. "I'm so grateful for everything."

kanye-west-says-kim-kardashian-is-the-most-beautiful-woman-of-all-time-she-calls-him-the-most-amazing-dad-ever-

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West attend on Sept. 29, 2013 in Pariskanye west is dangerously close to a tom cruise couch-jumping moment. The "Bound 2" rapper just can't seem to stop talking about how much he loves and admires fiancee kim kardashian with whom he has a 5-month-old daughter, North. During an interview with Hot 97 radio host Angie Martinez on Monday, Nov. 25, West compared their love to an epic romance and said he thought his future wife was maybe "the most beautiful woman" in the history of humankind.
"Okay, ladies and gentlemen," he announced. "All barber shops, fashion designers, architects, corner stores, Wall Street, all over the world: Y'all acting like this ain't the most beautiful woman of all time! I'm talkin', like, arguably of human existence -- the top 10 of human existence."
"I loved her from the first day I saw her, which I said on 'Bound'...I remember seeing pictures of her and Paris Hilton in Australia, and I came to Don C., and I was like, 'Man, have you ever seen Kim Kardishawn? What's up with Kim Kardishawn?'" he shared, intentionally mispronouncing Kardashian's last name.
"So you knew that she was the one?" Martinez asked, as the hip hop star's fiancee sat behind him, listening.
"Oh, yeah, 100 percent," he replied. "[But] I had to work for it."
West, 36, went on to say that his romance with the reality star, 33, is the stuff of legends and Shakespeare. "Our love story's a love story for the ages," he raved. "I felt like when we first got together, it was like a Romeo and Juliet kind of thing, where it's like, she's a reality star and I'm a rapper, and people talk about how our brands connect and what doesn't fit. And I'm just so tired of the conversation of brands."
"Why don't we start the conversation with love?" he continued. "Why don't we start the conversation with God? Why don't we start this conversation with family? It's not about branding at a certain point
That said, West's brand is undergoing some major changes. Asked about his famous Nike footwear, Air Yeezys, the aspiring designer revealed that he'd recently set up a new deal -- with Adidas.
"I said I need royalties," he explained. "Nike told me, 'We can't give you a royalty because you're not a professional athlete.' I told them, 'I go to the Garden and play one on no one. I'm a performance athlete.'"
"The old me, without a daughter, might have taken the Nike deal, 'cause I just love Nike so much," he admitted. "But the new me, with a daughter, takes the Adidas deal, because I have royalties and I have to provide for my family."
He does indeed provide -- and not just financially. "His face lights up when he is with our daughter," Kardashian gushed to Martinez. "He is the most amazing dad ever. It's really cute to see them together."

Hip-Hop Rumors: Kanye West Orders Boycott…But Why?

Kanye West - Fear of God
Kanye West is getting weirder. I mean, I don’t understand, even though I am sure there is a method to the madness. tmz is reporting that Kanye West issued a report to NYC to stop buying Louis Vuitton until after Christmas, because…the head of Louis V wouldn’t meet with him in Paris. Apparently, the French CEO Yves Carcelle didn’t give a damn who Kanye West was and let him know about it. But, most people are saying this is the result of Kanye’s overall frustration with the Fashion Houses and designers that have blackballed him. He he wants in, but they won’t let him.
Now, I don’t know anybody buying Louis V like that, but if they did, I don’t think they would stop on the command of Kanye.

Top Nigeria football official banned for corruption

A senior Nigerian football official has been banned for 10 years for corruption, the country's football federation announced late Monday.
A Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) emergency committee handed Leye Adepoju the sanction excluding him from all football-related activities following an investigation.
Adepoju was a member of the NFF executive committee and also the chairman of the football association in Oyo state, southwest Nigeria.
He was alleged to have received a cash payment of 1.5 million naira ($9,400) before a disciplinary hearing against Shooting Stars, from the Oyo state capital Ibadan, after they abandoned a league match against Sunshine Stars earlier this year.
He was said to have received money to find in favour of Shooting Stars after their players refused to take the field in the second half when the score was 0-0, claiming that one of their officials had been attacked.
Shooting Stars were fighting relegation at the time. A subsequent hearing awarded Sunshine Stars the three points from the match.
The NFF also banned another senior official for 10 years for claiming he was attacked in the game and also referred to police an allegation that the chairman of Enugu State Football Association was an imposter.
Chidi Ofo Okenwa was told to step down from his role pending the outcome of the police probe.
Match fixing and corruption is a problem in Nigerian football and has led to sanctions against a number of clubs, referees and officials.
Four clubs were suspended earlier this year after two teams vying for promotion won 67-0 and 79-0 respectively with the NFF calling it a "scandal of huge proportions".

Pentagon approves BAE sale of F-16 upgrades to South Korea

The United States Defense Department has approved a deal under which the U.S. unit of Britain's BAE Systems Plc would upgrade 134 older F-16 fighter jets for South Korea, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress on Monday.
The approval is a significant boost for BAE Systems, one of the Pentagon's largest defense contractors, which hopes to win similar deals in other countries that aim to upgrade their current F-16 jets.
It also increases pressure on the original maker of the F-16s, Lockheed Martin Corp, to compete more aggressively on pricing in the hunt for deals to upgrade what are the most widely installed fighter jets in the world.
U.S. lawmakers generally have 30 days to block potential foreign military sales, but in this case the period is 15 days, according to BAE spokesman Neil Franz. Congress rarely acts to block such deals, since arms sales are generally well-vetted before a formal notification is sent.
BAE beat out Lockheed to win the South Korean competition in 2012. The first phase of the deal is valued at $200 million, and covers initial design and development efforts, according to the DSCA, which oversees major foreign military sales.
Coupled with a second phase to upgrade the F-16 C- and D-model fighter jets with new avionics and radars proceeds, the deal could eventually be worth $1.1 billion, according to South Korean media reports.
"The BAE deal potentially sets a precedent that opens the door to similar deals in a dozen other countries," said Loren Thompson, chief operating officer of the Lexington Institute.
He predicted that Lockheed would fight hard for future contracts. "At the very least, it puts pressure on Lockheed's pricing," he said, describing servicing the global F-16 fleet over the next 20 years as a multi-billion dollar opportunity.
Historically, the companies that make warplanes have also serviced them and carried out major upgrades. Given the dearth of major new acquisition programs, weapons makers are fighting hard for all new orders, including deals for upgrades of existing systems.
ROAD MAP
The DSCA said the sale would provide South Korea's air force with a detailed road map for improving the capabilities of its current fleet of F-16s in order to better deter regional threats, strengthen its homeland defense and operate together with U.S. forces more effectively.
BAE welcomed the announcement by the Pentagon agency, saying the congressional notification marked a big step forward in the plan agreed by South Korea and the U.S. Air Force for BAE Systems to carry out the upgrades.
Erin Moseley, president of BAE Systems' Support Solutions sector, said South Korea's decision to award the contract to BAE reflected its confidence in BAE as "a viable, experienced and proven provider of F-16 upgrades and system integration".
BAE has already completed upgrades of over 260 aircraft for the U.S. Air Force, and an additional 50 jets for Turkey, BAE officials said.
At Lockheed, Bill McHenry, head of business development for the F-16 program, told Reuters during the Dubai Airshow last week that the company was aggressively pursuing upgrades and additional sales of new jets around the world.
"One of the good things is we've sold 4,500 airplanes, but that makes us a very big target," he said. "There's lots of competitors who are trying to get into the market."
He said Lockheed's work with F-16 customers in 26 countries and continuous development of new upgrades would allow more customers to benefit from the economies of larger orders. For instance, he said, Lockheed was now testing new upgrade packages that would extend the service life of the aircraft from 8,000 hours to 10,000 or 12,000 hours.
"A competitor, a BAE, may not have all the data or the insight, the technical expertise, or the laboratories that we have," he said.
McHenry said Lockheed had enough orders to keep the F-16 production line running through the third quarter of 2017. But he said he felt confident further orders would emerge that would stretch production until around 2020.
South Korea announced last week that it planned to buy 40 F-35 Joint Strike Fighters, Lockheed's newest fighter, with initial deliveries to begin in 2018.

China Claims Air Rights Over Disputed Islands

The Chinese government on Saturday claimed the right to identify, monitor and possibly take military action against aircraft that enter a newly declared “air defense identification zone,” which covers sea and islands also claimed by Japan and threatens to escalate an already tense dispute over some of the maritime territory
The move appeared to be another step in China’s efforts to intensify pressure on Japan over Japanese-controlled islands in the East China Sea that are at the heart of the dispute.
The declaration, from a Chinese Ministry of National Defense spokesman, Col. Yang Yujun, accompanied the ministry’s release of a map, geographic coordinates and rules that Colonel Yang said authorized treating an area alongside the eastern Chinese coast as the air defense identification zone.
“The objective is to defend national sovereignty and territorial and air security, as well as to maintain orderly aviation,” Colonel Yang said in comments issued on the ministry’s website in both Chinese and English.
“China’s armed forces will take defensive emergency measures to respond to aircraft that do not cooperate in identification or refuse to follow orders,” said the rules issued by the ministry, also in Chinese and English.
Later on Saturday, China’s air force said it had dispatched its first planes, including fighter jets, to enforce the rules.
The Chinese announcement follows months of increasing tension over the uninhabited islands as China appeared to be taking moves to establish its claim to them, including more frequent patrols by ships around the islands. Those patrols have led to cat-and-mouse games between Chinese and Japanese ships near the islands, known as the Senkaku by Japan and the Diaoyu in China.
But the claim to the airspace near the islands could prove particularly problematic. Japan has scrambled fighter jets in the past when China has sent a plane, and possibly a drone, to the area, to ensure that they were not entering what Japan considers its airspace.
As the potential for a miscalculation that leads to conflict has increased, the United States has become worried that as an ally of Japan, it could be dragged into any conflict with China.
Colonel Yang said that the declaration of the air zone was not aimed at any particular country, and that it would not impede the freedom of commercial flight over the East China Sea. But his words left little doubt that the move could be used against the Japanese government and military aircraft.
The Japanese Foreign Ministry said the government had lodged a “serious protest” with China over the move. And Tomohiko Taniguchi, a counselor in the office of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan, said that the new air defense zone “potentially escalated the danger of accidental collisions between the Chinese military and the U.S. and Japanese counterparts,” according to The Associated Press.
The longstanding dispute between Beijing and Tokyo over the islands flared last year, months before Xi Jinping assumed leadership of the Chinese Communist Party in November. The spark was a decision by the Japanese government to buy some of the islands from a Japanese citizen. Japan said the move was to keep the islands out of the hands of a nationalist politician who would increase tensions, but China saw the purchase as Japan’s effort to strengthen its hold on the islands.
The new Chinese rules left unclear how frequently and thoroughly China intends to enforce them. But Chinese state-run media widely reported the announcement, which could kindle public expectations that the government will take steps to back up its words.
Military experts have said that even if both Japan and China seek to avoid outright confrontation over the islands, there is the risk that an unplanned incident in the seas or air near the islands could spiral into a wider military conflict.

Central African Republic declares curfew Announcement made on state television as country descends into violence prompting warnings of genocide.

The Central African Republic has announced a countrywide curfew from 10pm to 5am in a presidential decree read on state radio.
The announcement came late on Friday as the troubled nation spiralled into conflict, pitting the Muslim rebels who seized power in a coup earlier this year against the nation's mostly Christian population.
Earlier this week, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius warned in an interview that the nation is on the verge of genocide.
The country's Christian president, Francois Bozize, fled the capital in March as the Seleka rebels overran the city.
Rebel leader Michel Djotodia proclaimed himself president, but since taking power he has been unable to control the rebels, who have run amok over the chronically poor nation. The fighters are accused of gruesome massacres.
One of the world's poorest countries with a long history of chaos and coups, the Central African Republic has been in turmoil since a coalition of rebel groups joined forces and overthrew the president in March and put their leader in charge.
'Looting, killings, rapes'
Since taking power, the Seleka rebels and their allies from neighboring Chad and Sudan have plunged the country into a state of near-anarchy.
They have been accused by human rights groups of committing scores of atrocities, of widespread looting, killings, rapes and conscription of child soldiers.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called on the UN Security Council to authorise international support to an existing African Union-led peace operation in the country and to permit emergency intervention from UN forces if needed.
So far, the African Union force has about 2,590 personnel on the ground, the majority in the capital, Bangui.

ASUU in secret meeting in Kano

THERE are indications that the strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may be called off anytime from now.
These indications emerged on Friday following a secret meeting of some branch chairmen of the union in Kano, which sources said might not be unconnected with an attempt at the resolution of the strike.
According to a source, the ASUU branch chairmen, who came in their cars, parked the vehicles at the old campus of the Bayero University, Kano and then left in a bus for a secret location for the meeting.
The source said the choice of a secret location by the chairmen might be for security reasons.
The branch chairmen at the meeting, it was gathered, included those from the North-West, South-South and South-West.

Very Well Aged: Archaeologists Say Ancient Wine Cellar Found Discovery in Israel Thought to Date Back 3,700 Years

Scientists have said that they have unearthed a large wine cellar in the ruined palace of a Canaanite city in northern Israel. Watch a video of the ruins and hear the scientists explain their research.
Archaeologists say they have discovered a 3,700-year-old wine cellar in Israel, a finding that offers insights into the early roots of winemaking.
The large wine cellar was unearthed in the ruined palace of a Canaanite city in northern Israel, called Tel Kabri, not far from the country's modern wineries. The excavations revealed 40 one-meter-tall (about 3 feet) jars kept in what appeared to be a storage room.
No liquid contents could have survived the millennia. But an analysis of organic residue trapped in the pores of the jars suggested that they had contained wine made from grapes. The ancient tipple was likely sweet, strong and medicinal—certainly not your average Beaujolais.
"We were absolutely surprised," said Eric Cline, archaeologist at George Washington University and part of the team involved in the excavation. "We thought we were digging outside the palace walls when the jars came up."

The findings were presented Friday in Baltimore at the annual meeting of the American Schools of Oriental Research. The scientists have yet to publish their discovery in a peer-reviewed journal; some archaeologists said that made it difficult to judge the validity of the claims.
The oldest known wine cellar held about 700 jars and was uncovered in the tomb of Pharaoh Scorpion I in Egypt, which dates to about 3,000 B.C. But there were no wild grapes in Egypt, so where did the Egyptians get their wine? Scientists say they probably imported it from the Canaanites, a claim bolstered by the recent find.
More than 5,000 years ago, "it was the Canaanites who really developed the winemaking culture and took it to Egypt," said Patrick McGovern, an authority on ancient wine at the University of Pennsylvania, who wasn't involved in the Kabri dig.
Later, the winemakers of Canaan could have taken their expertise northward, setting the stage for winemaking to develop in Greece, Italy and other parts of Europe. "The Canaanites had the ships—they took their wine culture with them," said Dr. McGovern.
Historians know little about the rulers of Kabri, a town that dates back to 1700 B.C. But they know that a city called Hazor, about 50 miles away, had contact around this time with Mesopotamia, a region encompassing modern-day Iraq, and ruled by Hammurabi.
"The components of the wine match the textual description of wine in Mesopotamia," said Dr. Cline.
The quest to understand what the ancient wine might have tasted like required some nifty detective work in the lab. The scientists focused their efforts on fragments close to the base of the jars, which would have been in contact with the stored wine and absorbed some of it. They extracted the organic residues trapped in the pores and analyzed them chemically.
Andrew Koh, an archaeological scientist at Brandeis University, said he discovered the telltale signature of tartaric acid, a key component in grapes. He also found traces of compounds which suggested that other ingredients could have been added to the wine, including honey, mint and herbs.
That is a similar recipe to that of medicinal wines drunk for 2,000 years in ancient Egypt. The wines in the Kabri cellar were both white and red, the researchers said.
A few days before the excavation was wrapped up this summer, the archaeologists discovered two doors leading out of the wine cellar. If those lead to other storage rooms with more wine jars, it may be possible to get an even better fix on what the wine was like. With enough data, the researchers said, they may even be able to recreate the flavor of the 3,700-year-old wine.

Scientists ‘prove’ afterlife with quantum mechanics

IT’S a question pondered by philosophers, scientists and the devout since the dawn of time: is there an afterlife?
While the religious would argue that life on earth is a mere warm up for an eternity spent in heaven or hell, and many scientists would dismiss the concept for lack of proof – one expert claims he has definitive evidence to confirm once and for all that there is indeed life after death.
The answer, Prof. Robert Lanza says, lies in quantum physics – specifically the theory of biocentrism. The scientist, from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in North Carolina, United States, says the evidence lies in the idea that the concept of death is a mere figment of our consciousness.
Lanza says biocentrism explains that the universe only exists because of an individual’s consciousness of it – essentially life and biology are central to reality, which in turn creates the universe; the universe itself does not create life. The same applies to the concepts of space and time, which Professor Lanza describes as “simply tools of the mind”.
In a message posted on the scientist’s website, he explains that with this theory in mind, the concept of death as we know it is “cannot exist in any real sense” as there are no true boundaries by which to define it. Essentially, the idea of dying is something we have long been taught to accept, but in reality it just exists in our minds.
Lanza says biocentrism is similar to the idea of parallel universes - a concept hypothesised by theoretical physicists. In much the same way as everything that could possibly happen is speculated to be occurring all at once across multiple universes, he says that once we begin to question our preconceived concepts of time and consciousness, the alternatives are huge and could alter the way we think about the world in a way not seen since the 15th century’s “flat earth” debate.
He goes on to use the so-called double-slit experiment as proof that the behaviour of a particle can be altered by a person’s perception of it. In the experiment, when scientists watch a particle pass through a multi-holed barrier, the particle acts like a bullet travelling through a single slit. When the article is not watched, however, the particle moves through the holes like a wave.
Scientists argue that the double-slit experiment proves that particles can act as two separate entities at the same time, challenging long-established ideas of time and perception.
Although the idea is rather complicated, Lanza says it can be explained far more simply using colours. Essentially, the sky may be perceived as blue, but if the cells in our brain were changed to make the sky look green, was the sky ever truly blue or was that just our perception?
In terms of how this affects life after death, Lanza explains that when we die, our life becomes a “perennial flower that returns to bloom in the multiverse”.
He added: “Life is an adventure that transcends our ordinary linear way of thinking. When we die, we do so not in the random billiard-ball-matrix but in the inescapable-life-matrix.”
Lanza’s theory is explained in full in his book Biocentrism: How Life and Consciousness are the Keys to Understanding the True Nature of the Universe.

How Psquare’s Peter performs at own wedding for N8,000

PSQUARE
Psquare Peter Okoye’s fee to perform at any event runs into millions of naira. Incidentally, for a paltry sum of N8, 000, the second half of the P Square group performed for a huge crowd during his wedding.
Comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka, was in his elements and he was the person who caused Peter to perform for that amount.
Adeyinka reminded the audience how the twin brothers came to Lagos in a night bus and how they used to perform for N7, 500. He then offered Peter N8, 000 and asked him to perform.
Adeyinka said, “Back then when P-square came to Lagos, they were paid N7, 500 to perform and both of them would not only sing but also break dance and sweat profusely for N7, 500. This is N8, 000, Peter should come and perform for us. He should dance harder because the N7, 500 was for the two of them but this N8, 000 is just for Peter.”
The groom didn’t hesitate, he took up the challenge and he did it well to the amazement of the crowd that attended his wedding.
Forgetting that he just arrived from Ghana where he went for a show, the singer performed his Personally hit track and his dancers even joined him on the stage.
Gbenga Adeyinka wasn’t done. The next on his ‘hit’ list was the Kukere master, Inyanya.
The singer who has raked in well over N100m in just a few months had to perform for a ridiculous amount of N1, 000!
Adeyinka said, “When Inyanya started singing even before Project Fame, I don’t even need to ask him how much he used to collect. I know it was not more than N750. Here is N1, 000, come and perform for me especially that Kukere song you do and whine your waist,”
Footballer, Emmanuel Adebayor was also put on the hot seat by the comedy merchant. The comedian first wanted him to joggle a ball but since none was near, he was made to speak Yoruba and dance. He opted to dance the skelewu dance which he pulled off to an extent.

Psquare-Peter’s wedding: Genevieve Nnaji, Kate Henshaw snub each other

GENEVIEVE
The age-long feud between A-list actresses, Genevieve Nnaji and Kate Henshaw has not died down as it found its way into the venue of Peter Okoye and Lola Omotayo’s traditional wedding last Sunday.
It was gathered that the two superstars were seated on the same table. But somehow they managed to avoid each other and did not even acknowledge the presence of each other.
The two ladies have been fighting a cold war for a long time now, and the beef seems not to be in a hurry to end. The bone of contention is yet to be ascertained, but reports said, they have always given each other the cold shoulder each time they meet at social functions.

Claudia, 27, told the Mirror: “I was with my girlfriends and he sent over a drink to us – he had this huge bottle of Ace of Spades champagne, it must have been six or ten litres.

Michelle Obama's Biggest Fashion Regret? Wearing Shorts.......she says

michelle obama has become known for her fantastic, unique sense of style. Whether it's an affordable dress from Target or a stunning Jason Wu gown, the first lady's sartorial choices are typically lovely and well-suited for her body type and personality. That said, there is one item she wishes she'd never worn in public: shorts.
On Tuesday, Obama was a guest on BET's "106 & Park" and an audience member asked her about her biggest fashion regret. "I am kind of always happy with what I'm wearing, I think," she said. "Sometimes I forget I'm the first lady and I'm running around in shorts. I know the first time we went on a family vacation, I had shorts on getting off of Air Force One and that created a huge stink because people were like, 'She's wearing shorts getting off of Air Force One!' And I thought, 'What? We're on vacation!' It was hot!" She added, "So I've avoided shorts getting off of Air Force One."
Obama is referring to Aug. 16, 2009, when she went on a family trip to the Grand Canyon. It was the hottest month of the summer, and while the first lady has a penchant for sweet sundresses, a bouncy frock may not have been comfortable to wear at the notoriously windy national park. Instead, she opted for shorts; a tank top with an open, button-down shirt; and sneakers. Should she have worn pants to avoid having her photo taken in shorts? Opted for a longer pair? Because of all the fuss that was made, Obama said she's steered clear of wearing shorts ever since.

But some stylists have defended her style choice. "A love of fashion means never having to say you're sorry," celebrity stylist and fashion expert Robert Verdi tells Yahoo Shine. "Michelle Obama is like our mom and she’s on vacation. I don't think she should get flack for it. [She] has been able to do so much for emerging designers and for moms who want to feel great. She has some normalcy, but she always puts herself together and that's inspiring.”
The first lady's outfit is admittedly more casual than most ensembles worn by former first ladies, but Obama seems to be more relaxed than her predecessors. She certainly stuns in elegant formal attire when the occasion calls for it, but she also feels comfortable letting her guard down and wearing more casual garments. Unlike some previous first ladies who exclusively wore designer outfits, Obama stands out for wearing big chain retailers like H&M, the Gap, and Talbots.
Celebrity stylist June Ambrose refers to the first lady as a style pioneer. “She's bought grace, sass and class to the White House! Women from around the world are breaking rules because of her daring approach [to fashion]."
If you're still not convinced that the first lady is down to earth, there's more proof.  Another audience member asked her what she missed most about her life before moving into the White House. "I long to walk out that front door, go to CVS, and buy some toothpaste and nobody would notice me," said Obama. She's tried sneaking out in a baseball cap in the past but says it's getting increasingly harder not to be recognized.
Wearing shorts on vacation and shopping for her own toothpaste? Maybe some famous people really are just like us after all. "Shorts or no shorts, she's a fashion killer and I love her!" Verdi says. We couldn't agree more.

Kanye west outburst: Bruno Mars Won All the Motherf**king VMAs

Why do the MTV Video Music Awards make Kanye West so angry?! Following his outburst at the 2009 awards during Taylor Swift's acceptance speech, the controversial rapper is now lashing out at Bruno Mars and his big VMA wins.
During his Yeezus tour stop at Brooklyn's Barclays Center, where the VMAs were held in August, West revealed that prior to his performance at the awards show, his producer Rick Rubin told him to "do your motherf**king song and leave."
But the profanities and VMA bashing didn't stop there. "Bruno Mars won all the motherf**king awards and sh**," the 36-year-old musician told the crowd during Wednesday's (Nov. 20) show. "And I was thinking about what Rick Rubin told me, because I don’t give a f**k about no TV show. But what I care about is if you're an artist and you work hard as f**k and the streets say that you deserve that sh**. Then can't no motherf**king networks try to gas everybody up so they can sell some product with the prettiest motherf**ker out."

In case you've forgotten West's VMA outburst, here's when he stole the limelight from Swift at the 2009 awards show:Kanye: Bruno Mars Won All the Motherf**king VMAssource: yahoo

Death toll in Latvian store collapse jumps to 47

Death toll in Latvian store collapse jumps to 47

Rescue workers pulled bodies from the ruins of a collapsed supermarket in the Latvian capital Riga on Friday as the death toll rose to 47 in the Baltic state's worst disaster in decades.

Cranes lifted large slabs from the wreckage of the Maxima store, in a Riga suburb of grey, Soviet-era housing, to find those trapped after the roof collapsed late on Thursday when it was full of shoppers on their way home from work.
Rescue workers cleared away rubble from the store, which had occupied around 1,500 square meters (5,000 square feet), as ambulances and fire engines stood by.
Police said the death toll had reached 47 as of 10 a.m. ET, including three rescue workers. Thirty eight more were injured.
"In the past hours, no survivors have been found," said Viktorija Sembele, a rescue service spokeswoman.
To help rescuers look for people in places where shoppers actually were during the collapse, police have created a map based on tapes from security cameras.
Latvian public television said as many as 40 people could still be trapped in the rubble, based on information from the cameras, but neither Sembele nor police could confirm the figure.
"Every hour, air temperature, high air moisture - they are factors that reduce possibility to find some survivor. But, of course, hope always remains," Armands Plorins, chief of emergency ambulance service told TV.
The cause of the collapse remains unknown, but Interior Minister Rihards Kozlovskis said: "It is clear that there has been a problem with fulfillment of construction requirements."
Local media said workers had been building a roof garden on the supermarket, a single-storey building located about a 30- minute drive from the city center.
Soil, grass and parts of a new walkway could be seen dangling from the edges of the collapsed rooftop.
Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis announced three days of mourning from Saturday and said the collapse had shattered Latvia, a former Soviet republic which joined the European Union nearly a decade ago and will join the euro zone next year.
"In our thoughts we are together with all those stricken by this tragedy," Dombrovskis said. "No matter what the cause of the tragedy is, the number of victims is too big."
Among other post-Soviet disasters to hit the country of two million, 23 Latvians perished along with about 800 others in 1994 when an Estonian ferry sank in the Baltic Sea. Twenty six people died in 2007 in a blaze at a Latvian care home.
HOPE
Earlier on Friday, about 50 people gathered near the ruins for news of relatives, while others brought candles and flowers.
"I have a wife there. There is no information about her, whether she is dead or alive. Wherever I call, there is no information," Igor Umanov told Reuters Television. He said he believed his wife was alive.
A girl at the scene told public radio she had gone into the shop with her mother when a concrete block collapsed between them and that she was nearly buried in rubble. She managed to escape but had not yet found her mother.
Other witnesses said there was a loud noise and the store went dark. People escaped through holes in the windows.
Rescue workers were called late on Thursday to the store, which according to local media had been awarded an architecture prize when it was completed in 2011. Several were injured by a second collapse because of the building's weakened structure.
Rescue workers were halting work periodically to listen for survivors and for the sounds of mobile phones in the wreckage, Latvian television said.
State fire and rescue service chief Oskars Abolins told Latvian TV that heavy concrete blocks were hampering rescue efforts, adding: "As we have to search all the rubble and the whole construction, rescue work might continue for another day."

Solved: the riddle of the rotating Egyptian statue

For months, curators at a British museum had been wondering how an ancient Egyptian statue in a sealed display cabinet had been able to rotate on its glass shelf, seemingly of its own free will.
Rumors abounded that it was cursed by an Egyptian god, or that the spirit of its owner had entered the figurine, causing it to shudder. Others put forward more prosaic explanations, suggesting a magnetic field was behind the statue's movements.
But now, a British engineer has solved the riddle, discovering that miniscule vibrations from traffic and footsteps from passersby were causing the 3,800-year-old stone figurine to spin.
"The statue was rotating due to vibrations entering the display case," Steve Gosling told Reuters by telephone on Wednesday. "We installed an accelerometer and found that vibrations from both road traffic and footfall within the museum were the cause."
Video footage of the spinning statue went viral on the Internet over the summer, drawing crowds to the Manchester Museum in northern England to gaze at the curious artifact.
Gosling, who made his discovery as part of an ITV television series called "Mystery Maps", said the bulk of the weight of the 25 cm statue was at one end, meaning it was off-balance and especially susceptible to vibrations.
"With an object of such hard material on a glass shelf, the level of friction between the two materials is very low. It doesn't take a lot to make it move," he said.
The statue, of a man called Neb-Senu, was intended as an offering to Osiris, ancient Egyptian god of the dead and ruler of the underworld. It was donated to the museum by a private collector some 80 years ago

Hundreds of thousands evacuated as Cyclone Helen hits India

Hundreds of thousands were evacuated as a severe cyclone slammed into southeastern India Friday, packing strong winds and torrential rains and killing at least two people, according to officials.
"Cyclone Helen has made landfall," an official with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) told AFP, as rains lashed Andhra Pradesh, disrupting life and snapping communication lines.
Two people were killed by falling trees in the storm that comes a month after a cyclone left at least 18 people dead and a trail of destruction along coastal Andhra Pradesh and in the eastern state of Orissa.
Disaster authorities expect "high rainfall during the next 24 hours" in three coastal districts of cyclone-prone Andhra Pradesh, said the disaster management official.
The cyclone was expected to be downgraded into a "deep depression" later Friday, the official said.
State authorities have evacuated hundreds of thousands of people out of the storm's path and rushed emergency services into areas reeling from the high winds and heavy rains.

Shortlisted Candidates for 2013 screening for presidential scholarship scheme (PRESSID)
A total of 623 candidates met the criteria for selection for the second edition of the Presidential Special Scholarship Scheme for Innovation and Development, the Chairman of the scheme, Prof. Julius Okojie, said.
In a statement in Abuja on Friday, Okojie, who is the Executive Secretary of National Universities Commission, said the second edition of the scheme was for the 2014/2015 academic session.
Okojie, who is the Chairman, Implementation Committee of PRESSID, said shortlisted candidates would sit for the screening examination on December 10 at Chams Plc, Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that 446 candidates wrote the test for the first edition of PRESSID for the 2012/2013 academic session out of whom 100 were selected.
Okojie said the scheme was part of efforts to achieve the goals of Vision 20:2020 and President Goodluck Jonathans Transformation Agenda.
”The Federal Government of Nigeria has plans to develop a critical mass of professionals, who will serve as catalysts of change and agents of scientific and technological advancement as well as sustainable economic development.
”But this can only be achieved through the sponsorship of outstanding students for postgraduate studies in the top 25 universities in the world. ”This is why the Federal Government has instituted the Presidential Special Scholarship Scheme for Innovation and Development,” he said.

Meet some of Nigeria’s highest paid CEOs

Leadership has unveiled some of Nigeria's highest paid CEOs and the stories behind their rise to the top, based on authoritative reports, between 2009 and 2012. Read below

Culled from Leadership
Being a successful and influential chief executive officer takes hard work, guts, sacrifice and a more-than-average knowledge of how the business environment works. Many who wish to be successful and influential wonder how others have achieved great things, thinking such feats are impossible in their bid to toe same path.
Nigeria boasts a slew of successful CEOs in almost every sector – banking, oil and gas, sports, health and manufacturing. LEADERSHIP Friday unveils some of them. Find the report after the cut...

CEO, Stanbic IBTC, Sola David-Borha
As the managing director/CEO of Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc, David-Borha is one of the country’s highly-rated bankers. She is the highest paid director in Nigeria’s banking sector, with an annual remuneration of N177m. When broken down, this becomes N484, 931 daily, including weekends when may have no reason to go to work.

David-Borha has patiently risen through the ranks to get to where she is today. She was, at different times, responsible for overseeing the corporate finance and corporate banking, projects and structure finance, as well as asset management and private banking departments. At a time, she bore the burden of supervising treasury and finance services department.

David-Borha also headed the correspondent banking relationships’ department at Stanbic IBTC and served as a member of the executive committee. She was appointed to the bank’s board in 1994 and has held other positions, including a spell as director of Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc, Stanbic Nominees Nigeria Limited and Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers Limited. She was also appointed a member of the board of Financial Institutions Training Centre (FITC).  She did not miss serving as a member of the bank’s board credit, board nominations and risk management committees.
Having passed through these stages before rising to the pinnacle, David- Borha can be said to have, indeed, paid her dues and can be said to have exhibited a great degree of competence, experience, long career plan and hard work to get to her present position.

CEO, Mobil Oil Nigeria Limited, Tunji Oyebanji
Mobil Oil Nigeria (MON) is one of Nigeria’s major petroleum products marketing companies. As its chief executive officer, Oyebanji is on an annual remuneration of N85m. When broken down, this amounts to a daily pay of about N231, 956.

As chairman/CEO/managing director of MON, there is no doubt that Oyebanji’s hard-work, commitment and dedication has been largely responsible for the turn-around which the company’s fortune has experienced, making it stand tall among other competing oil corporates.
The company now operates more than 200 retail outlets spread across the 36 states of Nigeria and the Fedeeral Capital Territory; it owns three plants (in Apapa, Lagos State) where lubricants, petroleum jelly and insecticides are manufactured.

As at 2011, MON had an annual turn-over of N63.1bn, from N58.34bn in 2010. With a combined dividend per share of N5 and bonus issue of one for five shares, MON has, arguably, the industry’s highest priced stock.

CEO, GTBank, Olusegun Agbaje
The managing director/CEO of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), Olusegun J.K. Agbaje, is rated as one of the country’s highest paid CEOs. His GTB prides itself as “the biggest and most profitable bank in Nigeria” and one of the biggest companies on the shores of West Africa. Agbaje co-founded the GTB in 1990 with Tayo Aderinokun who died in 2011.His annual take-home is a whopping N77m.
Before assuming the current position, Agbaje was the deputy managing director of the bank between August 2002 and April 20, 2011. He has also served as the divisional head of the bank’s institutional banking division and also as acting MD of GTB (Ghana) Limited, from April 20, 2011.

Interestingly, Agbaje has served in a number of capacities before becoming the man at the helm of the bank’s affairs. He was, at different points in his career; member, Assets and Liability Management Committee; member, Criticised Assets Committee; member, Board, Information Technology Strategy Committee and member, Board, Risk Management Committee.

On his way to the top, Agbaje also served as member, board, Human Resources and Nomination Committee; member, Management Risk Committee and member, Management Credit Committee.  Experience garnered from serving in these committees helped, in no small measure, in preparing him for the current position of CEO.

CEO, Oando Plc, Jubril Adewale Tinubu
According to recent financial reports, the second highest paid CEO in the oil sector is Wale Tinubu, with a total annual remuneration of N69m, an equivalent of N189, 041 per day.
Tinubu is the group chief executive of the company which has been hailed as Africa’s leading indigenous energy solutions provider listed on the stock exchange in Nigeria and Johannesburg. Tinubu also has a record of long-time service, having served on the board of various blue-chip companies as chairman and director.
His outstanding performance has won him several awards, among which are; Africa’s Business Leader of the Year awarded by the African Business Magazine and the Commonwealth Council on the basis of his contributions to the development of the African oil and gas sector in 2010. He won the same accolade in 2011, courtesy of the African Investor.

These accolades are proof that Tinubu’s ascension to the pinnacle of the administrative ladder in Oando was no fluke but a function of his doggedness and hard-work. Tinubu also holds key positions in a number of major financial institutions.

CEO, Forte Oil Plc, Akin Akinfemiwa
Forte Oil Plc. (formally African Petroleum Plc.) is a foremost indigenous major marketer of refined petroleum products with strong presence in the 36 states of the federation and Abuja. According to recent reports, as its group chief executive officer, Akinfemiwa’s annual salary is N64m (N175, 342 per day).

Prior to this appointment, Akinfemiwa had a successful career in the banking sector. He served as the CEO of Sky Bank Plc, until July 31, 2010. His expertise covers a range of areas, including; strategic planning and management, corporate banking, project financing, leadership and advisory services. He has also served as managing director/CEO of Prudent Bank.

Akinfemiwa has now brought his hard-work to bear on the fortunes of Forte Oil Plc. The public liability company which is quoted on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) has over 500 dealer-assisted and dealer-developed retail outlets spread across the country.

CEO, UBA, Phillips Oduoza
Phillips Oduoza is the chief executive officer, group managing director, and an executive director of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc. He is one of the highest paid CEOs in the banking sector, with an annual remuneration of N57m (as at 2010). It suffices to say that Oduoza is one of the few who can beat their chest in fulfilment of a banking career.

He became the CEO and managing director of the bank in August 2010 and has served as its deputy managing director (South) from the 2005. Besides having the honour of having gained monumental experience from working across different banks for more than 20 years, he has served also as the bank’s executive director of Retail Financial Services. UBA’s fortune, no doubt, has snow-balled, with results from his professional services and investment of talents as proof.

His services in the bank cut across membership of the board risk committee and financial and general purpose committee. Before assuming the position of CEO, he served as deputy managing director of the bank. Among many other designations, he was an executive director of the defunct Standard Trust Bank (STB) which was acquired by the UBA in the thick of the consolidation exercise introduced by the then-governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.

CEO, Ecobank Nigeria, Jubril Aku
According to a Banks’ Financial Transparency report, as at 2009, the bank ranked second on the list of highest paid bank CEOs in Nigeria, with N88m per annum as salary for its CEO. But the bank reportedly slashed the CEO’s emolument to N38m per annum, perhaps, as a measure against financial stress.

Jubril Aku is the chief executive officer (CEO) of Ecobank Nigeria Plc. He has been its managing director since March 2010. Aku served as acting treasurer, Citibank, Tanzania and as country treasurer, Citibank Nigeria Plc.

He began his banking career in 1979 with the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc., where he worked for three years from September, 1986 to December, 1989. He served at the Continental Merchant Bank Plc., where he worked as a credit and investment analyst.
Aku has served in various capacities with different financial institutions and is, by all standards, an accomplished banker.

Au’s academic brilliance has earned him several accolades, among which are the First Bank of Nigeria Plc Prize for the Best Graduating Student in Banking and Finance at the Ahmadu Bello University, from where he graduated with honours in 1986.

CEO, Zenith Bank, Godwin Emefiele
The CEO and group managing director of Zenith Bank Plc, Godwin Emefiele, is also one of the highest paid CEOs of Nigerian companies. Emefiele succeeded the pioneer CEO of the bank, Jim Ovia, in August 2010. By his current position in the bank’s hierarchy and the number of branches it can bboast of within the country and in West Africa, it is evident that Emefiele is fulfilled.

Prior to his choice of banking as a career in Zenith Bank, Emefiele was a lecturer in University of Nigeria and University of Port Harcourt where he taught Finance, Bank Management and Insurance. However, he later left the academia for banking. He joined Zenith as a pioneer staff over 22 years ago and has proved his worth in advancing the bank as well as increasing its fortunes and profitability. In 2001, he was appointed deputy managing director before succeeding Ovia three years ago.

He has also served as member of Executive Committee, member of Board Credit Committee, member of Staff Matters, Finance and General Purpose Committee and member of Board Risk Management Committee.  Emefiele’s services and impact were also felt in Management Global Credit Committee, Risk Management committee, Assets and Liabilities Committee and Information Technology Steering Committee where he served as member.

The advancements made by the bank are not without the inputs of Emefiele who served as executive director in charge of corporate banking. He as well served in the treasury, financial control and strategic planning department. He has been in the management team of Zenith Bank from its inception.

20 most annoying things people do on planes

You folded your suit coat nicely and placed your hat in the allotted overhead space. Too bad Bin Hog just mangled it all while shoving his suitcase, stroller and shopping bags into a space meant for one personal item. Are we really blaming babies for doing what babies do naturally? Sure, as long as they're your kids, and not ours.
The holiday travel crush is almost upon us.
Want to give a special gift to a stranger?
Spread some holiday cheer by not doing any of the things on this list while flying.
Polling at least a crowded plane toilet's worth of travel writers and other too-frequent fliers, we've conducted an unofficial survey of the most rude and irritating things you ... sorry, other people, do on planes.
20. Abusing someone else's possessions in overhead bin
You arrived at the gate on time, boarded in orderly fashion and used your allotted overhead bin space for your nicely folded coat and new fedora.
Then Late Lummox arrives with a suitcase, stroller and shopping bag and mangles your dapper wear beyond recognition while shoving half his life possessions into a compartment meant for one personal item.
Then proceeds to sit twelve rows away.
\
"Look, I'll choose the movie for you."
19. Taking ages to choose a movie
Airplane movies: opiate of the flying masses.
Except when your neighbor takes 30 minutes deciding between "Grown Ups 2" or something a little less cerebral.
An interesting variation observed by travel writer Tom Jordan: when someone within eyesight is watching the same movie as you but a few scenes ahead -- spoiling it for you frame by frame.
18. Compulsive leg-shaking
Not often encountered but nonetheless trying at 30,000 feet.
This one was actually raised by a leg-shaking travel author himself, who notes that, once, the woman next to him leaned over and placed a firm hand on his knee -- a unmistakable signal to still the hyperactive leg.
"I can only imagine the prolonged psychological drama that finally led to such an aggressive request," the tremulous author writes.
17. Boarding before group number is called
Most airlines have a system for getting hundreds of passengers aboard in the least amount of time.
That's why we schlep onto a plane as part of Group A or B or 1 or 4.
Granted, rubbing shoulders with the dirties in boarding group Y is like being stuck in the back row for a concert at Wembley.
And we're all familiar with the anxiety that comes with watching the multitudes board and snatching up all that overhead bin space.
And if airlines hadn't started with the checked baggage fees, getting on early wouldn't be so critical to one's emotional well being.
But just because you drew the short straw on this one doesn't give you the right to pretend to be dyslexic.
16. Babies crying
Is the human race worth perpetuating?
You often think not when exposed on a flight to incessant infantile bawling.
Kid-free zones top the surveys of many airplane wish lists.
Are we really blaming babies for doing what babies do naturally?
Sure, as long as they're your kids, and not ours.
Weak bladder as moral failing.
Weak bladder as moral failing.
15. Getting huffy when a neighbor leaves their seat
"I'd learn some bladder control if I was in the window seat," these smug aisle sitters think to themselves virtuously.
On the other hand, constant restroom visits are annoying.
Airplane toilet breaks? Nobody wins.
14. Yapping on cell phone
"Hey, we just landed. ... can you hear me? ... we just landed ... I'm on the runway ... can you hear me now? ... We just landed ... "
13. Scarfing smelly food
We get it -- airlines have cut back on food service, forcing us all to bring our own snacks and meals onboard.
But did you really have to clean out the back of your refrigerator and bring it on the flight?
\
"You're going to Miami, too? Fascinating!"
12. Loud talking
If Internet dating doesn't really work, is random plane jawing going to? We're trying to read.
11. Establishing armrest hegemony
The weapon here is the elbow -- and the lesson?
That nowhere do we regress to selfish, war-like invasion of territory more speedily than on a plane.
10. Poaching the empty middle seat
God be praised, the middle seat is empty!
Until the selfish boor next to you lays claim to the no man's land of the middle seat with a book, coat or inflatable neck support.
Space is at a premium on these buses with wings, as Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary described aircraft: share it when you can.
Sharing is good -- just not exotic germs.
Sharing is good -- just not exotic germs.
9. Coughing, sneezing, germ sharing
"Boundaries" are what these last few points are really about.
And in no way are boundaries more violently shattered than when someone shares their spit globules or spends 20 minutes horking up the carrier agents of a virulent new illness picked up on vacation.
8. Playing games without turning sound off
Funny how some of the most irritating things on the planet can be called "games."
No, you're right
It really isn't funny.
Unless being a bystander to "bleep, bloop, blorp" keeps you entertained for two hours.
7. Rolling huge suitcases up aisle
"There's always at least one culprit on each flight with a bag that's way too big to be carry-on trying to prove to everyone that's it's not," reads a News.com.au article.
"Supermarket-sized duty free shopping hauls" are another related bugbear from travel journalist Tom Jordan.
The queue was invented for a reason.
The queue was invented for a reason.
6. People behind you trying to disembark first
What is it about flying that induces such primitive behavior?
Here we've regressed to the time before the invention of the queue.
5. Neglecting personal hygiene
"I once sat on a seven-hour New York-London flight next to the smelliest man in the universe," writes travel scribe Sandra Lawrence.
"The concept of soap and water seemed never to have occurred to him.
"The plane was fully booked. There was no way out."
Air crew carry deodorant on board for this very reason. But they shouldn't have to.
Carrying out personal hygiene routines while aloft -- cutting your fingernails, say -- is just as bad.
4. Bare feet
"Feet nudism" was a common complaint in our unofficial survey.
"Flights are the perfect time to air these puppies out," snarls the Huffington Post sarcastically.
Appalling side note: people who actually go to the bathroom on the airplane in their bare feet.
Foot-related side note: several survey respondents nominated aisle sitters who stubbornly park their feet, legs and other body parts in the aisle for rude traveler honorable mention.
3. Hogging the toilet
What are they doing in there, you wonder as you hover cross-legged by the door.
Certainly not being considerate of other people.
2. Reclining the seat
Curious how a sanctioned behavior -- pressing the seat recline button, thus pinioning the person behind with their own tray table -- should raise so many people's ire.
"It's such selfish behavior," sighs world-weary traveler Mary Novakovich.
De-design these babies, airplane engineers!
Punitive action against a seat kicker.
Punitive action against a seat kicker.
1. Kicking/bumping/shoving the seat back
Here's the most toxic irritant by a country mile.
Designed to save on fuel, airplane seats are incredibly light -- meaning they transmit the slightest touch.
Or amplify it: to the poor schlub in front, your constant fidgeting with your tray table and seat pocket feels like a kung fu world champion working out.
Are we there yet?
Is something annoying missing? Tell everyone how rude they are in the comments.
